Fred Roberts – Superintendent

Message from the Superintendent

Fred Roberts

I am the Interim Superintendent here in Edinburg until December of 2023. An Interim is very much like a Substitute Teacher and yes I was here 8 years ago also. Normally an Interim simply does all the things a regular full time Superintendent would be expected to do but I have a very special assignment this time in that my main duty is to help Mrs. Francis with her on-the-job training to fully take over as the District Superintendent in December 2023.

You might ask what my background is to do this job. I am the oldest son of a family of 6 raised on a dairy farm in the far northwest corner of Illinois. For the first 3 years of school I attended a one room school with 16 students in 8 grades. I later graduated from Elizabeth High School with a class of 32 students. That school was indeed nearly a twin to Edinburg and may be part of the reason that Edinburg is my favorite school of all time.

I was a history and driver education teacher for 4 years, a high school Principal for 6 years and either an Elementary or High School Principal AND Superintendent for 23 years before retiring and taking on the challenge of becoming an Interim Superintendent in 8 districts over the last few years. Additionally, I have been employed to mentor 8 principals and to teach in two separate colleges.

My wife and I have raised 6 children and we are now busy keeping up with 9 grandchildren. My Bachelor of Arts degree was in Sociology/Anthropology and my Masters and Specialist in Education degrees were in Education Administration.
