My Classroom
As the junior high and high school special education teacher I am responsible for writing each students IEP (individualized education plan)Â and re-evaluations. I have to also work with staff, administration, social workers, psychologists, and any other person that works with the child. I am the go to person if parents have concerns, questions, etc.
Special Education Language Arts allows students and staff to work at a slower pace in order to improve reading and writing skills. Special Education junior high students take this class more often than high school. We try to get them into as many regular education classes as possible so that they are exposed to the same material as their peers. They are offered assistance in the resource room as well as the use of their accommodations.
In special education math we work at a slower pace in order to learn the steps needed in order to progress to higher functioning math skills. We also work on life skills math skills.
Resource time allows staff to work with students on regular education assignments or strategies that they need extra assistance with to complete.
